The Main North
Modelling NSWGR in 1965 from Sydney to Armidale using double and triple decks
Layout Description
Heading north from Sydney, an engine change from electric to mainly steam at Gosford. There are three north coast trains operating with diesels. From Broadmeadow split operation to either Newcastle or Werris Creek and the North Coast. Trains to the north over 250t are rear end banked from Murrurundi. Then on to Werris Creek where some stage to the North West but trains continue to Armidale, stopping at Tamworth.
There is a return loop at both Sydney and Tamworth for continuous running.
Most operation is through freight or passenger. Signature train is the Northern Tablelands Express, a 7 car DEB set splitting at Werris Creek for Armidale and the north west.
