The Layout

Southern Highlands Model Railway Inc. A layout designed for all prototype operation.

A layout of 47m2 in a dedicated railway building opposite 42 Erith Street Bundanoon, about 300m east of the Bundanoon railway station. A bonus is real railroading on the Main South through the windows or standing next to the track.

Layout Description

The layout accommodates Australian, Us and British prototype. It is of slightly irregular shape with a folded loop around a peninsular at one end and around the outside wall at the other end, measuring approx. 18 metres by 5.5 metres at the longest points.

The overall track plan consists of two interconnected loops to allow for continuous mainline running. The total length of one circuit is approx. 100 metres.

There are six stations, most having extensive staging/shunting yards. A branch line provides operation away from the mainline.

Operation is by DCC using an NCE command station. This supports both radio and tethered throttles. Additionally, devices using Engine Driver or Wi Throttle may also be used. The layout can accommodate about 8 operators.
